On October 3 and 4, 2019, P&I SERVICES MEXICO ( Delmex Group Company ), strove to organize the first seminar focused on the environment in the modern history of Mexico, which allowed the much-needed cooperation and understanding between authorities and private entities. With the assistance of David Baker from the International Group of P&I Clubs, we are pleased to report that our seminar was a great success.
As participants and speakers our Seminar saw the presence of the IG Group of P&I Clubs, ITOPF, OMI, IOPC, ICS, CMI, Navy of Mexico, Mexican Merchant Navy, ASEA (Agencia de Seguridad de Energía y Medio Ambiente), PEMEX, PMI ( Pemex), KOT, P&I Clubs, Mexican Maritime Chambers, Union of Mexican Harbor Pilots, Hull Insurers, Petronas, TMM, Guatemalan Ministry of Defense, the Honduran Merchant Navy, lawyers and other correspondents.
It has been said that this was the first time that these international organizations were able to share the stage in a common cause.
Due to the diverse attendees, including high-ranking officials, our seminar became an excellent platform to interact with our national authorities on liability and compensation for ship-sourced pollution. This materialized on the first day of our seminar as a series of presentations and question and answer panel sessions that sparked difficult but constructive discussions among the audience. On the other hand, on the second day of our seminar, a workshop was held that consisted of an oil spill simulation directed by ITOPF, where we purposefully placed authorities and private entities in the same working groups. It should be noted that the dynamism and cooperative spirit of the teams was excellent and fruitful for everyone.
P&I SERVICES MEXICO, strives to continue working towards a better understanding of the roles of each one of those involved in the maritime industry, which will allow a fluid and fast cooperation with the Mexican authorities in any incident. In addition, and for the benefit of insurers and shipowners, we also strive to continue efforts towards the implementation of additional limitations and compensation conventions not yet applicable in Mexico. Ultimately we hope that, through these events, our ultimate goals will be achieved.
